Or to be more precise, that the games listed on the unused debug menu were real and not just placeholder names Nintendo had included for demo purposes?  Because if you go back a few months, you may remember someone claiming to have hacked Miiverse and the Wii U via some glitch and finding the following list of games:

 

1. Super Mario Wii U
2. Metroid
3. Zombie
4. Yoshi’s Land Wii U
5. FlipNote Studio
6. Donkey Kong
7. Wii Fit
8. Soul Hackers
9. Resident Evils
10. Metal Gear Solid
11. Final Fantasy 3
12. Dragon Quest 10

Now look at the recent Wii U game announcements, and this list is looking more and more plausible by the day.

Didn't the "hacker" say that the exploit he used was already fixed with an update?

Yes, and he wasn't really a hacker. He pushed two buttons and it popped up. Not like he was looking for it, otherwise he would have likely done more. I saw the thread on GAF when it happened.
