Nintendo created and officially licensed a headset for the 3DS. But what exactly is the purpose of this? Currently no online games use this and there is no form of a chat room. Is this a hint that they will be adding some sort of voice chat in online games in the future? With the big surprise of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon online multiplayer, I think they are finally listening to the massive group of fans begging for more multiplayer options. Hopefully they will announce something in the future. I think it would most likely be implemented in Miiverse in some way, of course after all of us 3DS owners get to join the Miiverse community.

 

This has been out for over a year now, and Nintendo has done nothing with it. Is there really a point to this? Hopefully they dont forget about this wasted potential. You could use it to amplify and increase the sound quality I guess, but I dont see many people paying 20$-30$ for that purpose.

Yeah I also dont like the idea of public chat in online games. Im viewing this more as a way for friends to create private chat rooms and play online games together, as this would make it so much more convenient. A chat service that can be accessed whether or not your are playing the same game or not, or any game at all. This would mean being able to talk to your friends anytime your both using wi-fi connection. Which would make it easier to discuss and decide what games you want to play together. Similar to what Xbox Live offers.

Well imo I would think it could be used for Pokemon X and Y. I'm saying that since games such as Black 2/White 2 have used the mic, and if you have a 3DS/DSi, the camera.

..That's a pretty nice headset I guess. Maybe I'll pick one up whenever it's released here.

Don't knock 'em till you try 'em! I have a pair of Logitech headphones I use for WoW that are squares. Out of the 5 or 6 different headsets I've tried/had, all the rest with round ear pieces, my $20 square ones have to be the most comfortable I've ever used. All in all, they look pretty nice, I like how they collapse down to lay flat. Don't think I need a headset for my 3DS though...

I havent played HoR but I known that it used the mic and would I assume that the headset is compatible with it.

I hope this is a sign of online upgrades soon,because nintendo doesn't really offer that great of an online experience with their games.
