Yesterday, I received an error code when trying to play Resident Evil: Revelations online. The same code appeared when I wanted to check Swapnote or even my Friend List.

Turns out, this code (which is a new code referring to simply the system being unable to connect to other systems through the internet) is a recent problem that is affecting several people on the Nintendo Support Forums. I can access things like the Nintendo eShop, but not things that interact with other 3DSs.

After a 2 hour customer service call with the Nintendo Tech Specialists, they were unable to find any problems with my router and only said I should try to connect at other locations. This will provide them with more information, but I am pretty sure the issue has to be with my 3DS itself, since no changes have been made to my home internet connection and it was working fine just 2 days ago.

Some people who have had this error message said it would come up randomly for as long as a month and then mysteriously disappear only to return another month later. If you have experienced anything like this, let me know, and PLEASE let Nintendo know. I am really upset and feel like I should be able to send them my system for a replacement if this problem has been affecting many people trying to play online games. Have YOU had any system-wide issues? Any horror stories or good Nintendo Tech experiences?

I haven't seen any such thing. Have you tried updating your 3ds?

As promised by people online, my error eventually went away. The error seems to mostly pertain to when the 3DS is directly interacting with other 3DSs (like online play in different games), but would still allow use of online titles such as the eShop or getting DLC.

As to the cause, my theory is that it is related to resetting the play clock. I was getting into the habit of doing so to increase my Play Coins when I got the error. Since then, I have not messed with the play clock and never since had the error code come back.

To be fair, Nintendo did warn you, don't cheat to get play coins.
They did warn you lol
